New Music Review - "Within The Land Of My Imagination I Am The Only God" by Erang

Album Name - Within The Land Of My Imagination I Am The Only God
Band Name - Erang
Genre - Dungeon Synth
Label - Katabaz Records
Release Date - June 25th, 2014

Its always fun to explore new genres, and Erang didn't disappoint with their brand of Dungeon Synth. The thoroughly atmospheric and nostalgic adventure into emotional realms and imaginary landscape was vastly enjoyable. The rich influences were apparent, as well as the artists love for them and his adoration for musical atmosphere. The whole experience felt like walking through a new world and getting amazed by its richness.

Instrumental music is quite different and hard to execute than conventionally structured songs. In conventional songs you have the luxury of using strong lyrics as well as vocal performances to convey your emotions, but in case of instrumentals you have to rely on your mastery and understanding of the instruments and yet create memorable music conveying vivid emotion and atmosphere. I can gladly say that 'Erang' succeeded with flying colors in their attempt. The atmospheric musical approach conveys so much emotion and wonder. At times its depressive, representing loneliness and loss; at times it transports the listeners into a world of medieval times; it makes listeners experience the joy of an adventure with the beauty of nature, with starlight nights and frozen landscapes among other things.

The influences from LoTR and medieval fantasy are quite vividly present and really enrich the atmospheric element of the musical presentation. The use of a variety of instruments ranging from synthesizer, guitar, keyboard, pianos, cello etc is also adds much to the overall emotions quite extraordinarily. These various instruments kept me wondering what more surprises will be coming next in respect of instrument choices.

While I liked the album quite a lot; yet I can not recommend this to everyone as instrumental music is definitely not for everyone; and also Erang's approach to it is catering to a specific themed influences. But to any fans of atmospheric, emotional and instrumental music I do recommend this album very highly.

Overall Score -
                         8.5 out of 10.
